Radya Pustaka Museum

Yesterday, Radya Pustaka, museum of Surakarta Palace, celebrate the 117th anniversary. This historical building established by KRA ( Kanjeng Raden Ayu ) Sostrodiningratan IV, which also known as Kanjeng Ngendraprasta, on October 28th 1890.

At Sunan Pakubuwono IX period, this museum named as Paheman Radya Pustaka. Its used to located on Ndalem Kepatihan of KRA Sostrodiningratan. But since January 1st 1913 this museum relocated to Kadipolo Building, used to known as Loji Kadipolo.

Radya Pustaka taken from Sansekertan Language, Radya and Pustaka. Radya mean Keraton (Palace), and Pustaka means books or library. So, it's mean Palace Library or State Library. This museum has some various collections , including a library to completing of its information. Book collections in this museum about 6000 title, which classified in 4 category. Jawa Carik (Javanese hand writing book), Jawa Cap (Javanese printing book), Translating book (Javanese book that has translated into Indonesian Language) and also ancient books from other countries, such as France, Germany and Holland.

Besides books, this museum has some statues collection. At the beginning, these statues placed in front of museum entry door. Then relocated to back side of the museum.
